This home was conceived as a peaceful, luxurious sanctuary for working, relaxing and entertaining. The design needed to feel secure and private from the street, yet open and light-filled within. The brief called for generous, well-connected living spaces, minimal-maintenance gardens, and spacious zones for rest and study — all with a sense of enduring character.
Key living areas are placed at the rear of the home to optimise privacy while taking advantage of the north-eastern orientation. These spaces connect seamlessly to a landscaped backyard complete with a covered alfresco area, swimming pool, and low-maintenance gardens.
Upstairs, the private master suite includes a library, bathroom and a serene sitting room nestled within the treetops. This clear separation between private and public zones enhances the home’s function and calm.
The design takes inspiration from Frank Lloyd Wright’s ‘Usonian’ houses — known for their informal layouts, strong horizontal lines, and seamless integration with nature. The home balances robust masonry with warm timber cladding and other raw, tactile finishes, resulting in a layered materiality that feels both grounded and refined.
Internally, the influence of Usonian design continues in the detailed craftsmanship and natural palette. Structural landscaping elements are carefully considered, further embedding the home into the site and strengthening the connection between house and garden.
